MEET THE ARTIST: Amita Saigal
India based artist, Amita Saigal, has had a knack for sewing, crocheting, embroidering and knitting since early childhood. She was introduced to the creative world by her mother, who is currently 85 years old, and wanted Amita to be an all-rounder. Amita continues to seek her mother’s feedback routinely and looks up to her as a role model. Amita is mostly self taught and has continuously tried to augment her skills by taking inspirations from nature, art galleries and local market scenes, thereby creating unique masterpieces. She used to design outfits as part of her gig in the early 90’s as an owner of a home-run boutique, but took a sabbatical to devote herself to family needs. Now, a mother and grandmother of two, she is leading by example by re-launching her career as an artist at the age of 61 through Ana N Shy, and demonstrating her craftsmanship at local fairs. Her pursuit of passion and unwavering grit are unparalleled. Amita is willing to push boundaries to inspire other women artists and aims to probe into deeper meaning of life through her art, a dedication to her guru, her mom.
